Basic Accounting Software

A small company that decides to computerize its accounting system but does not need too much sophistication in the program it will use may want to get a basic accounting software. This software includes modules for the core principles of accounting such as bookkeeping, checkbook management, invoice printing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.

The primary advantage of acquiring a basic accounting software is its affordability. Due to the relatively small number of functions and modules which it has, this kind of software usually costs not more than a hundred dollars. Furthermore, companies will not have a hard time installing the software. Its installation process normally takes less than an hour depending on the computer’s capacity. Speaking of the computer, this type of software has minimal system requirements. Its files need only 30 to 50 MB of disk space, but this of course excludes the space for the data that will be stored in the system. Moving on, a software for basic accounting takes a few hours or days to be learned, unlike other software that require its users to invest a lot of time and resource in training.

However, companies that use basic accounting programs may encounter a problem once they decide to hire more employees, provide new types of services, or expand their line of products. Some of these basic accounting software may not be able to support the growth of a business. A probable solution for this situation is the purchasing of add-ons, which are supplementary functions that are installed on the software, although only a few of these software support such functions.
