Accountancy is a profession that is recognized internationally. Accounting specialists who render their service on an international level are referred to as world accountants. Behind the high esteem brought about by their designations, these professionals have a multitude of tasks that are mostly related to money. However, there are international associations that can provide support to these accountants.
First of all, world accountants compile data and prepare schedules for financial statements that are reported yearly to the company. Second, they compute accrual amounts at the end of the year for payroll, benefits, and retirement whenever required. Third, they work with external auditors in reviewing financial statements and comply with governmental accounting standards. Fourth, they write up journal entries for the general ledger system of a company.
Apart from these tasks, world accountants maintain fixed asset records for properties such as the land, buildings, and equipment of the company. Furthermore, they assist with the annual inventories in the company and monitor equipment purchases and the procedures for asset tagging. Next, they process fixed asset disposals and perform depreciation calculations on system. With regard to computer fundamentals, they are adept in using word processors, multi-spreadsheet applications, Internet, and email. Moreover, they are trained in using the specific computerized financial systems in their companies. Finally, world accountants are expected to continue education on international accounting standards, tax issues, and topics concerning higher education.
Moving on, there are a number of globally recognized associations of world accountants and one major example is the IFAC. The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) is the worldwide organization for the profession of accountancy. It has a total of 155 members and affiliates from 118 countries. IFAC aims to uphold the interest of the public through promoting exemplary practices by world accountants. Its members and affiliates represent approximately 2.5 million accountants working in areas of public practice, commerce and industry, government, and higher education. IFAC’s activities are centered on the observance of high-quality accounting standards and the further promotion of international convergence of the said standards.
